Avul Pakir Jainulabdeen Abdul Kalam (born 15 October 1931) usually referred to as A. P. J. Abdul Kalam, was the 11th President of India who is also a renowned aerospace engineer. He served as the president between 2002 and 2007. During his term as President, he was popularly known as the People’s President. He was awarded the Bharat Ratna, India’s highest civilian honour in 1997. He has also been a professor (of aerospace engineering) and is the first Chancellor of the Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology Thiruvananthapuram (IIST). More »
